Rotary is truly an international organization with more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries.
Its 1.2 million members commit themselves to improving the communities in which they live, work and play by initiating service projects to address illiteracy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water and environmental concerns.
Each year, Rotary clubs around the globe participate in a broad range of humanitarian, intercultural, and educational activities designed to improve the human condition. One of Rotary’s most life-changing initiatives is PolioPlus. Launched in 1985, Rotary’s focus on eradicating polio has resulted in a 99 percent decrease in polio cases and Rotarians now stand on the threshold of achieving the goal of total eradication of this disease.
Rotary International also is committed to advancing peace and promoting educational initiatives. Rotary annually funds up to 50 Rotary World Peace Fellowships for graduate studies that are hosted by seven leading universities around the globe. In addition, more than 35,000 students from 110 countries have studied abroad as Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars and each year 9,000 secondary school students experience life abroad as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange.
