President Elect Bill Davies called the meeting to order at noon (President Julie Benkoski w as unable to lead today’s meeting since she’s currently in Africa). Andy Swanson led the pledges and Past President Sara Pantin gave the invocation. Buck Cole led us in reciting the “FOUR WAY TEST.” Our Greeter was Vera Keric and our Host was Will Holditch.
Tillery Castillo announced the upcoming Pints for Polio which will be held on October 18, at the new Fairmont Hotel’s Roof Top Terrace from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. David Doran updated the club on our Global Youth Exchange program. Past District Governor Gene Holiman presented
the Club’s 2017-2018 Presidential Citation to Past President Sara Pantin who thanked us all for the work and time involved to achieve this award.
This month’s Operation Vacation benefitted a soldier who left after the weekend on a deployment, but before he left he proposed to his girlfriend who accepted his marriage proposal! We all signed a congratulatory card we’ll send to the happy couple.
Ann Graham led our Thank Goodness Basket this w eek, and w e heard from: Mark Kapner, Adrian Moore and Rick Ravel.
After Fellowship, Arnold Garcia introduced our speaker with a story of a friend’s nephew who needed drug treatment and went to Austin Recovery for help even though he had limited financial resources. He they presented Laura Sovine, Executive Director of Austin Recovery.
Ms. Sovine gave us insights into the current state of the addiction crisis and some of Austin
Recovery’s programs to help:
President Elect Bill thanked Ms. Sovine and presented a library book for her autograph, which will be donated in her honor to Fulmore Middle School. He thanked our featured newsletter sponsors, Mark Johnson of IBC Bank and Mike O’Krent of LifeStories Alive.
President Elect Bill ended with a thought for the day, and the meeting was adjourned at 1:00pm.
